We use pressure-treated pine posts rated for heavy soil contact (UC4B rating) or galvanized Postmaster steel posts. For standard wood posts, we surround the post with gravel at the base of the concrete hole to allow moisture drainage, and slope the concrete crown above grade to divert rainwater.
For a standard 150-linear-foot yard, installation typically takes 2 to 3 days. Day 1 is dedicated to removing the old fence and drilling post holes to set posts in concrete. Day 2 and 3 focus on framing the rails, nailing individual cedar pickets, building gates, and tidying the lawn.
